What is a Life project?

Life is a support program of the European Union to give financial aid to environment and nature conservation projects. It is one of the most important instruments to support the joint environment policy.

Life Nature supports nature conservation projects which serve the conservation or restoration of natural habitats and the populations of wild plants or animals. In the period of 1992-2005 the European Commission allocated 700 million Euros for Life Nature projects. Co-Financing from the Commission can be up to 50% of the total costs and, in exceptional cases, a support of up to 75% is possible. Projects will be conducted only in nature reserves which belong to the European ecological network "Natura 2000" (Habitats Directive, Directive on the conservation of wild birds).
