Monitoring

Stocking of allis shad larvae will be accompanied by an extensive monitoring program. After stocking the behavior of allis shad larvae will be analyzed with drift netting and electrofishing to evaluate the quality of the stocking area and the success of stocking. This kind of monitoring was already successfully tested in the re-introduction programs of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and North Sea houting (Coregonus oxyrhinchus) in the Migratory Fish Program of North Rhine Westphalia and was able to give important hints on habitat preferences, food intake, predation pressure etc.

The distribution area and migration routes of young allis shad will be analyzed in cooperation with Dutch fishermen in the Rhine delta in autumn 2008-2010.

With information campaigns for the professional and recreational fishery, in addition to the described monitoring tools, more information about the development of the stocked animals will be collected.
