Water

Water is a basis for the life of human beings, animals and plants.

The area of North Rhine-Westfalia (NRW) is either densely populated or intensively agriculturally used. Special efforts to preserve surface water and groundwater as basis for live and as an integral part of the ecosystem are therefore highly recommended.

It is necessary to record the water balance, to monitor the water status continuously and to apply modern techniques, e.g. for the treatment of wastewater.

The water framework directive (WFD) readjusts the European water protection policy. Numerous experts in NRW are currently working on the implementation of the WFD.
