Radioactivity
The North Rhine Westphalia State Environment Agency (LUA) is responsible for certain aspects of radioactivity monitoring. The legal basis is given by
- german atomic energy act (AtG)
- german radiation protection ordinance (StrlSchV)
- german precautionary radiation protection act (StrVG).
The LUA is one of the five official monitoring institutes in North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) that belong to the Integrated Measurement and Information System (IMIS) measuring ambient radioactivity in accordance with StrVG.
Joint annual reports of the monitoring institutes can be found for the years 2002, 2003, and 2004 here.
The LUA is responsible for environmental monitoring of the water cycle and emission control measurements of sewage samples (Ahaus, Hamm-Uentrop, Jülich, and Würgassen) according to § 48 of the StrSchV following the "guideline for emission and immission control of nuclear plants" (REI).
Radiological emissions and immissions as well as meteorological data at the site of nuclear plants (Ahaus, Hamm-Uentrop, Jülich, and Würgassen) are controlled online by the radiological remote monitoring system (RFÜ) within the LUA.
